Embassy of India, Berne marked Diaspora Day - 2026 with a spectacular celebration of India’s rich cultural heritage, bringing together the Indian diaspora for an evening of unity, pride and artistic excellence.

The event opened with a warm and festive atmosphere, highlighting the diversity of Indian traditions through dynamic cultural showcases. Deputy Chief of the Mission Mr. Anoop Dhingra addressed the gathering, reaffirming the Embassy’s commitment to strengthening diaspora engagement and fostering deeper community ties. His remarks emphasized the vital role of the diaspora in promoting India’s heritage and values globally. The program reflected the shared spirit of the Indian community in Switzerland and underscored the importance of cultural connection across borders.

A particularly moving moment of the evening came when the audience joined together in a soulful rendition of Vande Mataram, commemorating its 150th anniversary. This collective tribute celebrated not only a historic milestone but also the enduring bond shared by Indians worldwide.

The cultural segment took attendees on a journey through India’s classical traditions. Performances featured the intricate rhythms of Kathak, the graceful storytelling of Odissi, and the precise expressions of Bharatanatyam. These timeless art forms, presented by talented members of the diaspora, showcased the depth and elegance of India’s artistic legacy.

Adding a contemporary flair, the event transitioned into high-energy performances that captivated the audience. Bollywood and semi-classical fusion acts brought vibrant energy to the stage, followed by a lively Bollywood karaoke session. The evening reached new heights with spirited performances of Ghoomer and Bhangra, creating an atmosphere of celebration and joy.

The program also recognized excellence within the community. DCM Mr. Anoop Dhingra felicitated Ms. Olga Chemerys, the winner of the Routes2Roots filmmaking competition from Switzerland, along with participating artists and winners of the ‘Bharat Ko Janiye’ spot quiz. These recognitions highlighted the diverse talents and active engagement of the Indian diaspora.

From soulful sitar recitals and classical dance to electrifying Bollywood numbers and interactive activities, Diaspora Day 2026 was a vibrant celebration of culture, creativity, and community spirit—an evening that truly reflected the unity and dynamism of the Indian diaspora in Switzerland.
