his year, Mr. Matur, Head of Marzili Movies (http://www.marzili-movie.ch) organised India as a theme for the annual Film Festival. The open air event, next to the Aare river, was inaugurated on 26th July 2016 by Ms. Smita Purushottam, Ambassador of India to Switzerland with the traditional lighting of Diya. The atmosphere was relaxed and the weather was balmy and ideal. Mr. Sohan, Indian Rickshwalla, pedalled the Ambassador to the event.

The large gathering of more than 600 Swiss film enthusiasts included Hon’ble Member of Parliament Mr. Matthias Aebischer, H.E. Mr. Sangkyu LEE, Ambassador of South Korea and Mr Michael Cottier from the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs. The Indian community also turned up in large numbers. This Embassy and India Tourist Office, Paris are co-sponsors of this event. Shri Prabir Chakravarty, Head Tourism Office Paris was also present at the event. The inaugural film “Oh My God” was screened on this event. It will be followed by four more films, viz. Peepli Live; Salaam Bombay; Taare Zameen Par and Jab We Met, will be screened from 27-30 July 2016, representing some of the most popular films and spanning different facets of life.

As with everything Swiss, there were plenty of innovations, as with the large super-sized portable two-way inflatable screen which covered the skyline in front of the Swiss Parliament, a rickshaw driven by Mr. Sohan, a young Indian national, to the little wooden wagons for the live Indian music by Swiss musicians.
