70th Anniversary of India's Independence

The Embassy of India, Berne celebrated the 71st year of India's Independence at a grand Reception in Berne at which the Swiss and Indian non-resident communities were invited. Around 250 people attended and all of these were active participants in the Embassy's initiatives and programs. The Head of the Asia-Pacific Division of the Swiss Foreign Ministry, Ambassador Johannes Matyassy also honoured us with his presence and gave a wonderful speech on the future directions of Indo-Swiss relations.

The Ambassador was delighted to welcome the representatives of many countries and their Excellencies to the occasion.

Further, the Ambassador of India made a speech outlining the various initiatives taken and also the new vistas opening up, the increased mutual understanding and appreciation between Switzerland and India and thanking each and every guest for their presence at the occasion.

Ms. Gauri (Priscilla Brülhart), exponent of Indian Kathak classical dance, gave a wonderful performance in front of the appreciative audience. The evening ended with a delicious dinner served by Kanchi Restaurant from Luzern.

In the end, the Indian and Swiss National Anthems were sung by the participants in celebration of the future before these countries and between them.

Finally, all the assembled guests joined in a brief celebration of Bollywood dancing to end the evening on a festive, optimistic, joyous, and inclusive note.
