Celebration of the 3rd International Day of Yoga in Jungfraujoch, Switzerland on 25th June 2017

The 3rd International Day of Yoga  (21 June) was celebrated in JungfraujochSwitzerland, on 25 June 2017.Jungfraujoch is at an elevation of 3466 meters ( 11,371 ft) and is considered the top of Europe. It is a famous tourist destination, frequented by hundreds of travellers everyday from all parts of the world and is a popular destination for Indians. The Embassy of India in Berne supported Shri Govind Sovale, Director of the Indo - Swiss Centre's initiative to organize Yoga on top of Europe. Shri Ram Madhav, National General Secretary of the BJP, graced the occasion and later also attended a conference inInterlaken.

The event began with a Ganesh Vandana, followed by unveiling of the book 'The Yogasutras of Patanjali' by Shri Ram Madhav, who also addressed the participants on the occasion.

'The Yogasutras of Patanjali', with the commentary of Vyasa, has been translated by an eminent Swiss scholar Acharya Vidyabhaskar of Omakarananada Ashram based in WinterthurSwitzerland.

All the participants then performed 'Surya Namaskar', a combination of 12 yoga positions. The event was attended by more than 260 participants.   This event is expected to enter the Guinness Book of World Records.

The Prime Minister of India, Hon'ble Mr. Narendra Modi, in his message on the occasion of the 3rd international day of Yoga, has urged everyone to make Yoga a mass-movement. This great initiative to celebrate Yoga on top of Europe will greatly help in the efforts to turn Yoga into a mass movement, a movement for harmony and peace, in this otherwise conflict ridden present-day world.
