The 3rd International Day of Yoga was celebrated in Berne (Switzerland) on 17th June 2017 at “Quartierplatz Wankdorf” from 1100hrs to 1300hrs. The programme began by singing of Sanskrit shlokas by a female vocalist, accompanied by a flautist, both ardent yoga followers, and by lighting of the lamp by prominent Yoga practitioners in Berne. The message given by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi on the 3rd international day of Yoga was then read out.   Thereafter, a one and a half hour Yoga session was held under the expert guidance of Ms. Michelle Meyes of the Isha Foundation. Ms Michelle emphasised on the spiritual aspects of Yoga, in addition to explaining the health benefits that ensue from its regular practice. It was a very educative and inspiring session which was much appreciated by an admiring audience. The programme ended with a scintillating Dance Drama by Ms. Sougandhika and her troupe, who beautifully explained the meaning of the existence of trinity in the Indian mythology in the present day context through the Indian classical dance forms of ‘Bharatanatyam’ and ‘Odissi’. In the end, the audios of the Shanti Mantras were played. The programme was well attended by about 120 people who were very appreciative of the initiative taken to conduct the programme to celebrate International Day of Yoga.
