The 15th session of the Indo Swiss Joint Economic Commission was held in Berne on October 25, 2016.

The Indian delegation was led by Ms. Anita Praveen, Joint Secretary, Department of Commerce. The Swiss delegation was also led by a lady, Ambassador Livia LEU, Head Bilateral Economic Relations, State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (EAER)

The two sides exchanged views on the global economic situation, Swiss participation in various trade and investment promotion events and in PM’s flagship programmes like Make-in-India, Digital India, etc., the GST, Skill Development, Ayurveda, cooperation in protection of Intellectual Property Rights, the MSME sector, Data Security, business visas and residence permits for Indian IT professionals, and the EFTA-India Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA). The Indian delegation also made an excellent presentation on the investment scenario in India which was eagerly followed by the Swiss side.

It was noted that with falling international trade and slowdown in major economies, India is a bright spot. Switzerland is also an excellent partner for Make in India, Skill India and the smart cities programs. There was an extended discussion on the areas of cooperation and a joint resolve to take the momentum forward.

Clearly, in the last two years there's been a lot of movement forward in India. The trends are positive. The pro-activeness of Indian decision makers was commented upon by the Swiss side.

The Indian delegation then left for Geneva where the EFTA TEPA talks are taking place between October 26-28, 2016. Mrs. Marie-Gabrielle Ineichen-Fleisch, State Secretary of Switzerland, Federal Department of Economic Affairs, led the Swiss delegation.
